Abstract
This
talk, based on a forthcoming new book called The Software Business,
focuses on some of the most important strategic concepts that
software companies or IT services firms need to consider when
trying to establish or grow a software-related business. In particular,
we will consider what is the optimal business model -- to be a
products company or a services company. We will also consider
other issues, such as whether it is better to focus on consumers
or enterprise customers, as well as horizontal or vertical markets.
